Silver vine, Actinidia polygama

Actinidia polygama is a flowering plant species. The species may also be commonly referred to as the Silver vine or Cat powder. The plant belongs to the Actinidiaceae family. A. polygama can be found naturally growing in Japan and China.

Actinidia polygama vines grow between 16 and 19 feet. Its leaves grow between 2.3 and 5.1 inches long. The species’ leaves appear silver and white in coloration, however during the flowering season its leaves are bright green. A. polygama plants will flower in June and July. Flowers are white and grow approximately 1 inch in diameter. After flowering the plant develops fruits containing many seeds. Its fruit grows between 1 and 1.5inches long and is very similar to the common kiwifruit; however it has an orange fleshy inside.

A. polygama fruits are edible and have medicinal and ornamental purposes. Cultivation is growing more and more common. The plant grows best in partial to full sunlight. It flourishes in moist, well-drained soil.
