iPhone AlleySample Entry: In a piece on AT&T's new CEO Randall Stephenson, the Wall Street Journal confirms that AT&T's exclusive iPhone deal will expire next year. The CEO is currently in discussions with Apple to extend the deal to 2011, although Apple refused to comment. In the second half of 2008, AT&T gained 4.3 million iPhone customers, with 40% of those being new to AT&T. If Apple chooses to discontinue exclusivity with AT&T, T-Mobile is the only compatible GSM carrier in the US. Hardware modifications would need to be done in order to get the iPhone operating on other carriers such as Verizon or Sprint. |
