Defending champion Tiger Woods will be paired with Padraig Harrington and Angel Cabrera next week for the first two rounds of the U.S. Open. Woods will be trying to become only the third player in the last 58 years to capture back-to-back U.S. Open titles.

England's Paul Casey shot a 5-under-par 67 Friday and built a two-stroke lead midway through the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship. Tiger Woods returns to competition Thursday and most of his major rivals will be there to greet him in the opening round of the Quail Hollow Championship. Woods will be playing for the first time since the Masters, when he put on a final-round show with playing partner Phil Mickelson in a rally that came up short of eventual champion Angel Cabrera. Both players began the last round at the Masters seven shots out of the lead and both made charges through the field before miscues on the back nine blunted their comeback hopes. Woods has one victory since coming back from the reconstructive knee surgery that cut short his 2008 season.

The Masters championship boosted Angel Cabrera 51 places in the world men's golf rankings and playoff participants Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell also improved. Cabrera won the Masters Sunday on the second playoff hole.
