If you've been anywhere near a television set in the last six weeks, you've seen the ads for Roland Emmerich's "10,000 B.C." -- the woolly mammoths frolicking through ancient cities, the saber-toothed tiger shoving his face so close to the long-haired hero's that the poor, terrified human can smell the monkey on his breath.

By Tatiana Siegel and Borys Kit LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - German director Roland Emmerich, who offered a terrifying glimpse of the future in "The Day After Tomorrow," will deliver a blast from the past with "10,000 B.C." The Columbia Pictures project centers on a young mammoth hunter who embarks on a journey through uncharted territory to secure the future of his dying tribe.

Word of the Day
postliminy
  • In Roman antiquity, the return of a person who had been banished, or taken prisoner by an enemy, to his old condition and former privileges.
  • In international law, that right by virtue of which persons and things taken by an enemy in war are restored to their former status when coming again under the power of the nation to which they belonged.
The word 'postliminy' comes from a Latin word meaning 'threshold'.
