Josh Gorges scored with 13 seconds left in overtime Thursday to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 victory over Toronto. It was a successful debut for Montreal Coach Jacques Martin, who takes over a team revamped from the one that struggled during the second half of last season and was swept by Boston in the first round of the playoffs. Two of the newcomers -- Brian Gionta and Travis Moen -- scored for the Canadiens.
Jacques Martin has left his position as Florida Panthers general manager to become head coach of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens. Martin is the 26th head coach in the Canadiens' storied history but Montreal hasn't won the Stanley Cup since 1993.
Marc Savard had two goals and two assists Saturday to help the Boston Bruins beat Montreal 5-1 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. The victory gave Boston a 2-0 lead heading to Montreal for Game 3 Monday. Savard started the scoring with a power-play goal at 9:59 of the first period.
Phil Kessel notched a hat trick Sunday for the Boston Bruins, who ended the regular season schedule with a 6-2 win over the New York Islanders. The Bruins now go to the playoffs where they tangle with the Montreal Canadiens in the first round.
