Nearly half of the United States' airborne fire suppression equipment was operating over Colorado on June 25, 2012, CNN reported, as tens of thousands of acres burned. By Rocky Mountian News Fire crews announced the Oxyoke Fire west of Castle Rock was 100 percent contained at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, and all evacuated residents were allowed to return to the area.The fire, on Pike National Forest land in Douglas and Jefferson counties, burned about 110 acres.Mop-up operations and cooling the smoldering trees and logs could take several days.The cause of the fire remains unknown. The Pike National Forest can be found in the Front Range of Colorado, USA, and westwards of the Colorado Springs and includes Pikes Peak.
