Cincinnati Reds right-hander Aaron Harang will miss the balance of the 2009 baseball season after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. The Reds said on their Web site the procedure followed an examination Saturday while they were in Pittsburgh.

Garrett Mock worked six innings Friday, and four relievers paraded to the mound to complete a shutout, bringing Washington a 2-0 win over Cincinnati. The Nationals snapped a three-game losing streak and won for the ninth time in 12 games. Mock (2-4) won his second straight start, striking out six, walking four and allowing six hits.

Adam Rosales had three hits Sunday, including a two-run homer, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-2 win over San Francisco. Rosales' homer, his fourth, gave Cincinnati a 4-0 lead with one out in the top of the fourth. Brandon Phillips hit a solo homer.

Randy Wells pitched 7 1/3 innings Monday for the Chicago Cubs in a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Wells (8-4) gave up a solo home run among six hits with two walks to win his fourth straight start.
