Gerald Laird and Adam Everett each had two-run doubles in a five-run fourth inning Friday, boosting Detroit to a 6-2 victory over Tampa Bay. Brandon Inge gave Detroit the lead with a solo homer in the second and the Tigers broke things open with their big fourth inning. Rick Purcell (11-8) earned the win with a 5 2/3-inning effort, during which he allowed a run on four hits. Matt Garza (7-9), who had been trying to end a five-start winless drought, gave up all six runs. Garza issued one-out walks in the fourth to Aubrey Huff and Carlos Guillen, then gave up a single to Inge to load the bases. Laird and Everett followed with back-to-back, two-run doubles.

Adam Everett and Curtis Granderson had two RBIs apiece and Rick Porcello (3-3) turned in a solid start in Detroit's 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians Sunday. Porcello held Cleveland to one run on five hits and struck out five over five innings before turning the ball over to a bullpen that has allowed just three runs in the past 31 innings. Jeff Larish added a solo home run for the Tigers, who swept the three-game series in Cleveland and have won six of their last eight. Anthony Reyes (1-1) took the loss after giving up all five runs on seven hits over five innings.

Shortstop Adam Everett, who played for the Minnesota Twins last season, has signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Tigers. The team, in making the announcement Monday, did not provide details of the contract, but it was reported to be worth about $1 million. We are pleased to add Adam Everett to the Tigers organization, said David Dombrowski, the team's president, chief executive officer and general manager. Improving our defense was a priority for our club this winter and we feel Adam is one of the top defensive shortstops in the game.
