Third-seeded Maria Sharapova was routed in straight sets Thursday during second-round play of The Championships at Wimbledon. Alla Kudryavtseva, ranked 154th in the world and making her second appearance at Wimbledon, broke Sharapova's serve five times en route to a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Three-time champion Venus Williams came back from a break down in the last two sets to avoid a major first-round surprise Tuesday against a Russian teenager playing her first match at Wimbledon.
Two-time Grand Slam champion Amelie Mauresmo was upset in the third round of the French Open on Saturday, losing to Lucie Safarova 6-3, 7-6 (3).
