SHELL CASTLE The sliver of ground is so narrow, it barely rates the title "island." Let alone, a newspaper dateline. Nevertheless, this is all that stands between the nesting American Oystercatcher pair and watery oblivion -- a rake of shells in the Pamlico Sound five miles west of Ocracoke.
