Anibal Sanchez pitched eight shutout innings and Dan Uggla and Cody Ross hit solo home runs Tuesday to give the Florida Marlins a 3-0 win over Philadelphia. The win came in the second game of a doubleheader after Philadelphia won the first game 9-3. Sanchez (3-7) allowed just two hits -- both to Chase Utley -- walked two and struck out seven for his first win in six starts.
Darnell McDonald homered during Cincinnati's three-run first Thursday and five pitchers made the lead stand up in a 3-2 decision over Florida. Since the final day of August, Cincinnati has won seven in a row, lost five straight and now has won five out of six. After McDonald opened the first inning with his home run against Anibal Sanchez (2-7), the Reds loaded the bases and Jay Bruce delivered a two-run single to shallow left. Matt Maloney (1-4) gave up two runs over five innings to earn his first major league victory in his sixth start. Ramon Ramirez, Arthur Rhodes, Nick Masset and Francisco Cordero then combined to throw four innings of one-hit relief.
Jeremy Hermida and Hanley Ramirez homered during a four-run seventh Friday, and Florida waited out a long rain delay to down Atlanta 5-3. The game finished just before 1 a.m.
Cody Ross drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, and Jeremy Hermida belted a two-run home run for the Florida Marlins Sunday in an 8-1 rout of Arizona. Hanley Ramirez added an RBI and scored twice for the Marlins. Josh Johnson (8-2) was the winner, allowing a run and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Cody Ross hit a grand slam in a five-run eighth inning Friday to boost the Florida Marlins to a 7-3 inter-league win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Ross's ninth homer this season -- and only hit of the game -- broke a 2-2 tie with no outs in the top of the eighth. Hanley Ramirez had three hits and three RBI.
