US Airways Thursday announced it would reinstate mileage perks that it canceled this summer in a move the Arizona air carrier took as fuel costs were rising. US Airways senior vice president of marketing and planning Andrew Nocella said negative feedback from customers and the need to stay competitive prompted the move to re-establish the bonus mile program, which the airline plans to do retroactively, the company said. US Airways downgraded the program in June, eliminating the bonus mileage and, essentially, cutting Dividend Miles for those traveling 100,000 miles a year in half, The Arizona Republic reported. As airlines played follow-the-leader with a series of new fees for everything from checked bags to in-flight snacks, US Airlines found itself alone in the move to cut its bonus mileage program, the newspaper said. We did not want to be an outlier on this, Nocella said during an interview.
