Intel Corporation today announced that its board of directors has elected Paul S. Otellini, currently president and chief operating officer (COO), as its next chief executive officer (CEO). Otellini, 54, will succeed Craig R. Barrett. Barrett, 65, will succeed Andrew S.

Paul Otellini was 41 and a rising star at Intel when, in 1992, his boss informed him that the company would choose him as its new chief of sales and marketing. Though it was a promotion, Otellini was not pleased.
