Archbishop of Canterbury Roman Williams, the Church of England's top bishop, says Christian programming is getting the short end of the stick on the BCC. The Sunday Telegraph reported Williams complained to BBC Director General Mark Thompson about a decline in the time allocated to religious programs being offered by the British TV and radio broadcaster.

At least two bishops of the Anglican Church have come out against efforts to keep its liberal and conservative wings united. The call for an orderly breakup of the church came Sunday as the archbishop of Canterbury convened the Lambeth Conference of 670 bishops to forge reconciliation.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Leaders from five Anglican provinces said Friday they will boycott a once-a-decade world Anglican summit because the U.S. Episcopal Church ordained a gay bishop.

An Anglican Web site in England reported the Archbishop of Canterbury has planned a secret communion service for gay clergy and their partners in London. The Church Society's evangelical.org site said the Rev. Rowan Williams would conduct the service at St. Peter's in London on Nov.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, right, has emphasised the need for people to respond to emergency appeals and not become "bored" by them. In his New Year message, broadcast on BBC2 last night, Rowan Williams said: "We all respond as best we can to one emergency appeal after another.
