SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The sheriff is saying "I won't" to two jail inmates who want to say "I do." The unidentified couple, in their early 20s and engaged to be married, have been in the Minnehaha County Jail since their arrests on theft and drug charges.

Patrick Deuel, who once weighed more than 1,000 pounds, has lost another 81 pounds in a surgery that removed a mass of fat and skin hanging from his midsection. "He's doing well," said Dr. Fred Harris, who performed the surgery Tuesday.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Seeing a wandering moose isn't too unusual - unless you live in the rolling farm country of southeastern South Dakota. A moose, estimated to weigh 1,200 to 1,500 pounds, was first reported late last month southeast of Sioux Falls.

Scientists from the EROS Data Center are leading a project to document changing landscapes in South Dakota and elsewhere by matching three decades of satellite images with what is happening on the ground.
