By Michael Slackman In another sign of the growing discontent with Iran's radical policies, former President Hashemi Rafsanjani won an election to lead the Assembly of Experts, a body of 86 senior clerics that monitors the nation's supreme leader and chooses his successor.

Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former president and longtime Machiavellian figure in Iranian politics, was picked Tuesday to head a powerful clerical body - another defeat for the current president's hard-line faction.
