News - Bartolo Colón
The Chicago White Sox were looking for 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon, the team said.
Vicente Padilla (2-2) turned in a strong seven innings Sunday to lead the Texas Rangers to a 7-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Hank Blalock smacked a pair of solo home runs to back up Padilla, who gave up one run on one hit and earned a win for the first time since his season debut April 8. The only run Padilla surrendered came in the second inning when he threw a wild pitch that allowed Jermaine Dye to score from third. Bartolo Colon (2-3) took the loss with five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Zack Greinke became the major league's first six-game winner Monday when he led the Kansas City Royals in a 3-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. Greinke (6-0), pitching his second shutout and third complete game of the season, gave up only six hits, did not allow a walk and struck out 10.
Bartolo Colon and three relievers combined on a six-hit shutout Saturday and the White Sox offense pummeled Minnesota for an 8-0 Chicago win. Colon (1-0) surrendered three hits in six innings before a mop-up by relievers Octavio Dotel, Matt Thornton and Mike MacDougal. At the plate, Corky Miller and Alexei RamÃrez led the way with two hits and two RBI apiece. One of two hits for Carlos Quentin was a seventh-inning solo homer.
The Chicago White Sox announced the signing Thursday of pitcher Bartolo Colon, who played for the team in 2003 and later won the AL Cy Young award. The 35-year-old Colon was signed to a one-year contract, the team said. Colon was 15-13 with the Chicago ballclub in 2003.
