When engineers restore rivers, one Kansas State University professor hopes they'll keep a smaller engineer in mind: the North American beaver.

A Canadian ecologist has discovered the world's largest beaver dam, located in a remote area of northern Alberta, which can be seen from space.

Massachusetts Highway Department officials said a pair of tenacious beavers used mud to clog a plastic pipe inserted into their dam to drain a flooded road. The department said workers initially used backhoes to breach the dam in wetlands next to Den Rock Park in Lawrence, but the animals quickly rebuilt

The return of beavers to Britain after 400 years has enthralled conservationists and disgusted at least one property owner who calls them nocturnal rats. Two families of beavers imported from Norway were released into the wild Thursday on the west coast of Scotland, The Daily Telegraph reported.
