Kansas-based Westar Energy has completed and placed in full operation the sulfur dioxide removal scrubber system on the Jeffrey Energy Center's Unit-1 electricity generator. As a result, the flue gas from the unit is being scrubbed to remove sulfur dioxide emissions.

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems has signed an agreement with Tampa Electric Company, a subsidiary of Teco Energy, for five 60MW FT8 SWIFTPAC units. According to Pratt & Whitney, the five units will provide 300MW of reserve energy for use during periods of high electricity demand.
