A MUSICAL about life in 19th Century London is being performed at a Darlington girls' school.Pupils from Polam Hall School are putting on three performances of the Threepenny Opera.The production is widely regarded as a milestone of 20th Century musical theatre and is the source of one of the most popular songs of the past 50 years, Mack the Knife, which was subsequently made famous by Bobby Darin.First performed in Berlin in 1928, the stage show tells the story of notorious criminal Macheath (Mack the Knife) and his fight to escape justice in Soho.Students from Polam Hall have adapted it for a younger audience and will now perform it during three days in the school's Liddiard Theatre.Marie Green, headmistress at Polam Hall School, said:"Students at Polam Hall are strongly encouraged to develop their artistic talents as well as their academic ones and their performances are always among the highlights of our year."The Threepenny Opera is a challenging production for both the performers
