By David Harrison david.harrison@roanoke.com 777-3523 Roanoke public schools are boasting a slight increase in enrollment this year, halting a decade-long slide. But other public school systems in the Roanoke region, which had been growing, are posting moderate decreases in enrollment.
GIRL SCOUT FUN DAY Botetourt Service Unit Girl Scouts sponsored its third Annual Girl Scout Fun Day Saturday, Sept. 13 at Cloverdale Church of the Brethren. Girls ages kindergarten to seniors in high school were invited to learn more about Girl Scouting and to join or form a troop.

By Cathy Benson cathy.benson@botetourtview.com Perhaps the most significant item the board voted on at last week's school board meeting was to ask the county to create a school division capital reserve fund. That was later approved in the regular board of supervisors meeting on July 22.
By Neil Harvey neil.harvey@roanoke.com 981-3340 Botetourt County fire crews and the Department of Forestry worked late Thursday night to control a brush fire. The fire is on a mountain in Buchanan, according to a dispatcher with the Botetourt County Sheriff's Office.
