Brad Ziegler struck out Kelly Shoppach with the potential tying run on second base Friday, preserving Oakland's 2-1 victory over Cleveland. The Athletics won their fifth in a row, taking a shutout into the ninth inning before Ziegler picked up his seventh save. Shin-Soo Choo singled with one out in the ninth and scored on a two-out double by Matt LaPorta. Shoppach, with a chance to send the game into extra innings, looked at a called third strike on a 1-2 pitch. Nomar Garciaparra doubled home one of Oakland's runs in the second and Mark Ellis had an RBI single later in the inning. Brett Anderson (10-10) struck out 10 and allowed four hits over six innings to get the victory. The loss went to David Huff (10-8).
Rajai Davis hit a two-run single to tie the game in the seventh inning Saturday in Oakland's comeback, 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Davis, who went 3-for-5, poked the single to center to tie the game at 3.
Kendry Morales highlighted a seven-run seventh inning with a three-run homer Friday, rallying the Los Angeles Angels past Oakland 11-7. Morales hit two home runs and had six RBI in helping Los Angeles break out of an offensive slump. The Angels appeared headed for what would have been their seventh
Mark Ellis drove in three runs in Oakland's 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers Tuesday. Ellis, who has a nine-game hitting streak, went 3-for-4 in support of Gio Gonzalez (3-2) who struck out seven and held Texas to three hits in 6 2/3 innings for the win. The Athletics scored single runs in four of the first five innings of the game and tacked on two in the eighth for their fifth victory in their past eight games. The Rangers managed only five hits, including two by Marlon Byrd and one by Michael Young, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Derek Holland (4-7) was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Kurt Suzuki opened the scoring in the first with a solo home run.
