Miguel Cabrera homered in the top of the 10th inning Tuesday to lift the Detroit Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 7-6. Cabrera sent an 0-1 pitch from Scott Linebrink (2-4) over the left field wall to spoil a Chicago comeback that included three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and force it into extra innings. Placido Polanco had three RBIs for the Tigers and Brandon Inge homered and scored three times.

The Arizona Diamondbacks wanted ace Dan Haren without having to deplete their stable of young talent. Trading major league saves leader Jose Valverde in a separate deal solved that problem.

Dan Haren is off the market, and the Arizona Diamondbacks have an imposing 1-2 punch at the top of their rotation.

Curt Schilling is headed to the Boston Red Sox - if he waives his no-trade clause with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The five-time All-Star announced the tentative trade Monday to reporters outside his house as his children and dogs played in the yard.
