News - Brett Gardner
The New York Yankees cranked out 16 hits in support of CC Sabathia's seven strong innings in Tuesday's 10-2 rout of the Minnesota Twins. Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano and Francisco Cervelli each had two RBI for the Yankees. Sabathia (8-5) gave up one run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk for the win. Scott Baker (6-7) took the loss for the Twins.
CC Sabathia allowed three hits over seven innings Friday and Brett Gardner went 5-for-6, sending the New York Yankees to a 9-1 win over the New York Mets. Sabathia (7-4) allowed just a run and struck out eight without a walk, retiring the side in each of the first four innings.
Brett Gardner touched off a five-run second with the first home run of his career Wednesday and the New York Yankees went on to down Toronto 8-2. The Blue Jays had a three-game winning streak snapped. Gardner opened his second season in the majors as New York's starting center fielder, but has recently seen his innings limited because of the hot bat of Melky Cabrera. Cabrera was put in left field for Wednesday's game and Gardner started in center, a move that paid early dividends. After Cabrera doubled to open the second off Scott Richmond (4-2), Gardner homered to right.
