Denver safety Brian Dawkins has won the NFL's 43rd annual Byron Whizzer White Award for his work in the community and his team. Dawkins, a seven-time Pro Bowl pick during his 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, was named the 2009 honoree Thursday night at the Players Association Gala in Washington. In Philadelphia, he was the regional spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, worked with the Burn Prevention Foundation, which sponsors an annual golf tournament to raise awareness and funds for its programs, and with the Philadelphia Daily News, he created a weekly award for a local high school football player who best exemplified academics, character and sportsmanship. The Denver Broncos have confirmed they have lured veteran free-agent strong safety Brian Dawkins away from Philadelphia. Terms of the deal Dawkins signed were not disclosed, but reports have said he will make $4.5 million next season. The 35-year-old Dawkins, a seven-time Pro-Bowl pick, has played each of his 13 NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, missed only nine games because of injury.
