The UK's inner watercourse navigation authority British Waterways has announced plans to generate renewable energy at canal and riverside locations across the country.

VISITORS to Birmingham's canalside on Wednesday will be treated to the sight of Lycra-clad bodies doing an aerobics session. An open-air fitness class will be held on the waterside outside the ICC and Pitcher and Piano in Brindleyplace.

A MAJOR campaign is under way to remove "squatters" living aboard houseboats on London canals. British Waterways says it is targeting people who claim to be cruising but remain moored in one place for longer than the permitted 14 days, as well as houseboat owners who fail to pay mooring fees.
