Judges of the 34th annual Cesar Awards in Paris say Seraphine was the best French movie of 2008. The Hollywood Reporter said the film from director Martin Provost earned the top award at Friday night's awards ceremony along with wins in six other categories. The movie, based on the life of French painter Seraphine de Senlis, was also honored for best original screenplay, costumes, sound, photography and decor.

A funeral has been held at a church in a Paris suburb for actor Guillaume Depardieu, the 37-year-old son of French film star Gerard Depardieu. Guillaume Depardieu, who had been estranged from his famous father for several years, died last week from complications stemming from pneumonia.
