The line at the doctor's office ran 20 patients deep, with some visitors stooping in pain and others coughing and sniffling. Babies carried to the makeshift clinic howled and keened in the way only sick infants can.

U.S. troops detained a former Iraqi general suspected of recruiting ex-soldiers to attack American forces, the military said. Ex-army Gen. Mumtaz al-Taji was found Sunday night in a house in Baqouba, about 30 miles north of Baghdad.
