News - Carlos Delgado
New York Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado will have athroscopic surgery Tuesday on his right hip to remove a bone spur and repair a torn labrum. New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez was sidelined two months for a similar operation.
A painful right hip injury has forced the New York Mets to place slugger Carlos Delgado on their 15-day disabled list. The move is retroactive to May 10. In 26 games this season, Delgado is batting .298 with four home runs and 23 RBI. His injury, called an impingement, has led to a slight muscle tear
Carlos Delgado delivered a three-run homer during a five-run eighth that broke open a tie game Friday and sent the New York Mets past Pittsburgh 7-3. New York extended its longest winning streak of the season to five games. Delgado had five RBI overall in backing up the season debut of Jonathon Niese, who was starting in place of the injured Oliver Perez. Niese lasted six innings while giving up two runs, but the win went to Bobby Parnell (1-0), who worked the eighth. Pittsburgh has suffered six straight losses and dropped 10 out of 11. Tyler Yates (0-2) was on the mound for his second inning of relief in the eighth when Jose Reyes opened the frame with a single.
Carlos Delgado hit a two-run single in the top of the ninth Tuesday to give the New York Mets a 4-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Ramon Castro was 3-for-5 with an RBI and David Wright had two hits, scored once and drove in a run for the Mets, who have won three of their last four games. Livan Hernandez (2-1) was the winning pitcher after giving up just one run on seven hits with two walks in 6 1/3 innings.
Gary Sheffield hit his 500th career homer Friday and Luis Castillo won it with a ninth-inning single, giving the New York Mets a 5-4 decision over Milwaukee. Milwaukee overcame an early 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning, but Sheffield tied it with his milestone blast -- a shot to left off reliever Mitch Stetter. The game remained tied into the bottom of the ninth, which Carlos Delgado opened with a double off Seth McClung (0-1).
