The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired slugger Jim Thome from the Chicago White Sox, the team said Monday. Thome -- who has 23 home runs and 74 RBI for the White Sox this season -- goes to the Dodgers in a waiver trade deadline deal that sends infielder Justin Fuller to Chicago.

Jayson Nix and Carlos Quentin led Chicago to eight runs over the first three frames Thursday and the White Sox avoided a four-game sweep by downing Boston 9-5. The White Sox ended a four-game losing streak and broke a second-place tie with Minnesota in the American League Central.

Scott Podsednik's RBI single with two out in the ninth Tuesday gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Kevin Jepsen (3-3) struck out Carlos Quentin and got Chris Getz on a ground out but Jayson Nix doubled and Podsednik lined a single to center to drive in Nix with the winning run. Matt Thornton (6-2) got the win after pitching 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief for the White Sox, who won for the fourth time in their last five games. Gordon Beckham hit a solo homer and finished with two RBI, and Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin each drove in a run for Chicago. Los Angeles scored three in the third to take a 3-2 lead.

Chicago White Sox left fielder Carlos Quentin is slated for surgery Monday on his fractured right wrist and will miss at least three weeks.

After A.J. Pierzynski somehow got himself safely out of a rundown, Alexei Ramirez's single to right scored him to give the Chicago White Sox a 6-5, 10-inning win over the Tampa Bay Rays, salvaging the finale of the three-game set.
