Casey Janssen began a four-inning scoreless stretch by the Toronto bullpen Wednesday in the Blue Jays' 7-3 victory over Baltimore. Toronto overcame an early 2-0 deficit to win its third straight game. Scott Richmond (7-10) left the game after five innings with a 4-3 lead and got the win thanks to outstanding relief pitching from Janssen, Josh Roenicke, Brandon League and Jason Frasor. The relievers combined to give up a hit and one walk. The Blue Jays broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run fourth.
Homers by Aaron Hill and Vernon Wells helped Toronto build a five-run lead Friday and the Blue Jays survived a shaky ninth to edge the Los Angeles Angels 5-4. Los Angeles lost its second in a row after having won eight out of nine. The Blue Jays scored four times in the first, with Hill hitting a solo homer and Jose Bautista contributing a two-run single. Wells then gave Toronto a 5-0 advantage with a home run in the third and the Blue Jays took a shutout into the seventh. Marc Rzepczynski (2-3) worked 6 1/3 innings to get the win, giving up just three hits to the normally high-scoring Angels. Los Angeles trailed by four heading into the ninth, but Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero reached on singles and both scored on a homer by Mike Napoli off Casey Janssen. Howie Kendrick then doubled with two away, but Bobby Abreu grounded out to first to end the game.
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed right hander Casey Janssen on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. The move is retroactive to June 14. The team recalled southpaw Brad Mills to replace Janssen to make his major league debut Thursday at Philadelphia. Janssen
