Overture Films has announced it is developing a modern-day film adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragic play Hamlet to be set in the United States. Into the Wild and Milk star Emile Hirsch has signed on to play the title character in Hamlet, which will be helmed by Twilight and 13 director Catherine Hardwicke.

British film director David Slade has been hired to head up The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Summit Entertainment announced. The movie, which will be the third in the franchise based on Stephenie Meyer's iconic vampire romance series, is slated for release June 30, 2010, Variety.com said Wednesday. Director Chris Weitz recently began shooting New Moon, the second film in the series, which is set to open in the United States Nov.

Summit Entertainment says more than 3 million copies of its Twilight DVD were sold in the United States during the weekend. The DVD release began at 12:01 a.m.
