BERLIN - A court convicted a nurse Friday of murdering five patients at a top Berlin hospital with overdoses of medication, sentencing her to life in prison.

A German nurse who said she gave lethal doses of medication to six patients to spare them pain was sentenced Friday to life in prison. Irene Becker apologized to the families of her victims and asked them to forgive her, Deutsche Welle reported.

54 year-old Irene Becker received her sentence at the Berlin state court today. The murder charges resulted from an investigation of the deaths of 15 patients who had died after being under Becker's care.
