Clayton Richard limited Los Angeles to a hit in seven innings Wednesday and San Diego prevented the Dodgers from winning a division title with a 5-0 victory. The Los Angeles lead in the National League West was reduced to 2 1/2 games over Colorado -- which moved to the edge of clinching no worse than the wild-card berth by defeating Milwaukee. Los Angeles can clinch the division title with one more win.
Clayton Richard threw six shutout innings and struck out six Friday in San Diego's 4-0 victory over St. Louis. It marked the Padres' first win over the Cardinals in 11 tries. St. Louis entered the contest having won 11 of its last 13 games. But Richard and four relievers cooled the Cards.

Clayton Richard held the Pirates to four hits in six scoreless innings Saturday, pacing the Chicago White Sox to a 4-0 win over Pittsburgh. Richard (1-0) threw 107 pitches with three walks and eight strikeouts. His effort came despite rumors he was being used to bait veteran right-hander Jake Peavy to accept a trade from the San Diego Padres. Alexei Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
