Long before Hurricane Katrina inundated New Orleans with what officials describe as a dangerous toxic soup, Montana's mining capital struggled to deal with a massive watery hazard.

Sep. 16--The National Mining Hall of Fame at Leadville, Colo., will induct John D. Ryan at ceremonies there on Saturday. Ryan, born in 1864, is the youngest of the mining pioneer inductees.

The National Mining Hall of Fame will induct five mining greats on Saturday, Sept. 17,2005 at the Museum Convention Center in Leadville, CO.
