After years of decline, bald eagles are springing forth with an aggressive appetite for great cormorant chicks.

This hungry cormorant nearly bit off more than it could chew when it decided to make a meal of a very slippery fish. The bird was spotted struggling with a large eel off Monmouth beach in Lyme Regis, West Dorset. It lost its dinner a couple of times and had to dive down to retrieve it.

WHY have the Canterbury rivers had the best salmon runs in years? The answer is because a few people broke the partial protection laws and culled a few black shags from up-country rookeries. Salmon smolt survive and move downstream to the ocean and in a few years return as fine salmon specimens.

Michigan wildlife officials say they believe a fisherman illegally released pigs on an island to get rid of fish-eating cormorants. The pigs were discovered on Snake Island in Lake Michigan in May by biologists doing a count of cormorant eggs.
