Cole Hamels pitched his fourth career shutout Tuesday when the Philadelphia Phillies blanked the San Francisco Giants 1-0. Hamels (8-8) gave up just two hits and struck out nine in his career-best for a nine-inning game.

Curt Schilling, who won more than 200 games in 20 years in the major leagues, said Monday he has officially retired from baseball. In an announcement on his blog, Schilling wrote: This party has officially ended.
