By ST GEORGE, Liz PLANS to set up a new dairy company in Wanganui are forging ahead with a series of farmer meetings around Taranaki next week. Dairy Trust intends to build a milk powder plant in Wanganui and will be starting work on the Affco site shortly.

Some are keen while others have their doubts about the new kid in the paddock. -------------------- The Dairy Trust, a wholly-owned subsidiary of meat company Affco, says it has visited more than 100 farmers in the southern North Island, as it hunts for milk supply.

By GRAHAM, Kathy A Waikato shareholder in Open Country Cheese (OCC) has said the price offered by dairy processor Dairy Trust for shares in the takeover bid for OCC would have to be considerably higher for him to sell. Colin Young from Matamata said the takeover bid came as no surprise.

A privately owned dairy company will soon be wooing North Island farmers for their milk. Dairy Trust - a consortium that includes main shareholders Talleys, Affco and Dairy Investment Fund Ltd - plans to build a milk- processing plant in Wanganui.
