Anibal Sanchez pitched eight shutout innings and Dan Uggla and Cody Ross hit solo home runs Tuesday to give the Florida Marlins a 3-0 win over Philadelphia. The win came in the second game of a doubleheader after Philadelphia won the first game 9-3. Sanchez (3-7) allowed just two hits -- both to Chase Utley -- walked two and struck out seven for his first win in six starts.
Joe Blanton gave up two hits in seven shutout innings Tuesday to pitch Philadelphia to a 9-3 win over Florida in the opener of a doubleheader. Blanton (11-7), who struck out nine, won for the fourth time in his last five decisions and ran a scoreless streak to 13 innings over his last two starts. Ryan Howard hit a two-run single as part of Philadelphia's five-run eighth inning and had three RBI for the Phillies, who have won eight of nine.
Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman homered Friday, leading the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win over the Florida Marlins. Dunn's 37th homer this season, a two-run shot off Florida starter Jason Johnson, came with two outs in the top of the first. Zimmerman hit his 29th, a solo homer, with one out in the seventh. Mike Morse hit a two-run, pinch-hit double in the sixth for the Nationals, who won their second straight contest despite just five hits. The winner was starter J.D.
