Daniel Barnz has signed on to direct the big-screen adaptation of Alex Flinn's novel Beastly, CBS Films said Thursday. The hiring was announced by Amy Baer, president and chief executive officer of CBS Films, a division of the CBS Corp. Barnz also penned the screenplay for Beastly, which CBS described as an edgy romance about a handsome, yet arrogant, 17-year-old who is physically transformed and must find true love to break the curse. Barnz previously wrote and directed Phoebe in Wonderland, which premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury prize.
