PHOENIX, July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Baseball's biggest sluggers went to bat for charities tonight and helped State Farm and Major League Baseball raise $603,000 during the 2011 State Farm Home Run Derby at Chase Field.
ANAHEIM, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Baseball's biggest moment, the home run, was on grand display tonight at Angel Stadium of Anaheim during the 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby as David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox captured the long ball crown, and helped State Farm and Major League Baseball (MLB) raise $573,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). "The 2010 State Farm Home Run Derby was a tremendous success for fans, participants, and State Farm agents and employees," said Todd Fischer, manager of national sponsorships for State Farm.
Jon Lester combined with three relievers on a three-hitter Thursday to bring the Boston Red Sox a 3-0 victory over Cleveland. The Red Sox have struggled heading into their playoff meeting with the Los Angeles Angels next week, but ended a six-game losing streak with a solid pitching performance. Lester (15-8) retired the first 15 men he faced before giving up a double to Lou Marson in the sixth.
