Houston Rockets center Dikembe Mutombo says his 18-year NBA career is over, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday. The end came on a left knee injury in the second quarter of Houston's 107-103 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 2 of the Western Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday. The eight-time NBA All-Star and four-time Defensive Player of the Year fell to the ground in pain and clutched his left knee after playing just two minutes. He was carried off the floor at Portland's Rose Garden on a stretcher. It's not something that I planned (but) it's over for me for my career, he told the newspaper.
