The chief executive of Italian fashion house Gianni Versace SpA has resigned, the firm says, after apparently running afoul of designer Donatella Versace. The company announced Friday that Giancarlo Di Risio was leaving in a mutual decision to close their professional relationship, The Wall Street Journal reported. But quoting an unnamed person familiar with the matter, the Journal said Di Risio left after unsuccessfully trying to convince Donatella Versace to rein in costs by spending less on promotional events and designing lower-priced clothing in the face of declining sales. Di Risio was hired in 2004 to rescue Versace from a financial downturn that struck in the aftermath of the 1997 slaying of founder Gianni Versace, the newspaper said.
A miniature portrait of the Victorian-era, Spanish-born opera singer Dame Adelina Patti is among the late Gianni Versace's belongings being auctioned. Versace, a famous Italian fashion designer, was shot to death by spree killer Andrew Cunanan in Miami in 1997. A collection of 500 items, including furniture, statues and paintings, from Versace's Lake Como home, are being auctioned off by Sotheby's, The Western Mail of Wales reported. The possessions are expected to fetch about $2.9 million. Among the items being sold is Lucien Francois Penet's 1899 rendering of Patti, who lived in the Welsh town of Swansea.
Donatella versace and Paul Beck yesterday issued a strong statement in response to articles which have appeared in the national and international press concerning the health of their daughter Allegra.
ALLEGRA VERSACE'S battle with anorexia is the latest tragedy to hit the family and follows the murder of her uncle Gianni, gunned down outside his Florida home in 1997. Gianni doted on his niece and left her half his business empire in his will.
