By SCOTT MILLAR THE Taoiseach is refusing to reveal the details of a secret deal which could mean the closure of Dublin Port and the transfer of its facilities to a small seaside village.
SPECIFICALLY designed to take massive lorries and trucks out of the capital city, Dublin Port Tunnel cost a staggering E750million to deliver. But now just months after the state of the art tunnel was opened to the public, petrol tankers could be banned from using the tunnel amid safety fears.
By YVONNE TARLETON THE one-millionth truck passed though the Dublin Port Tunnel yesterday, just six months after it opened last December. Since then the number of trucks in Dublin city centre has fallen by 94 per cent.
WHEN it works, the Dublin Port Tunnel is a joy to use, easing the journey for thousands of commuters. So why can it not work at all reliably? First, the Tunnel was late. As with so many State projects it arrived over-budget.
