Fernando Perez drove in the game-winning run Sunday with a suicide squeeze bunt, leading the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-6 win over Texas. The bunt knocked in Evan Longoria with one out in the top of the ninth.
A three-run homer by Andruw Jones keyed a six-run fifth inning for the Texas Rangers, who went on to knock off the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8-5 Tuesday. Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in a pair of runs for the Rangers, who won for the sixth time in seven games and beat the division-rival Angels for the sixth time this season. Derek Holland (3-5) pitched two innings for the win in relief of Dustin Nippert, who made his first start after beginning the season on the disabled list with a strained back. John Lackey (3-4) took the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
A three-run homer by David Murphy highlighted an early Texas assault Friday and the Rangers stormed to a 12-2 inter-league thrashing of San Diego. Texas won its third straight after losing five in a row. Elvis Andrus had four hits in as many at bats and Texas continued to break out of a recent offensive slump. The Rangers had scored no more than six runs in a game this month until producing nine against Arizona Thursday, although it took them 12 innings to do it. After Texas overcame a 1-0 deficit with a two-run first, Murphy keyed a four-run second with his home run.
Nelson Cruz hit a one-out home run in the 10th inning Friday and Texas, despite blowing a five-run lead, nipped Houston 6-5. Elvis Andrus and Jarrod Saltalamacchia both homered for Texas, helping the Rangers build a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. Houston then produced a two-out rally in the sixth and got a three-run homer from Lance Berkman.
