New Berkeley Lab study forecasts peak in energy use in China within 20 years.

China’s premier on Saturday pledged that his country would work harder to save energy and clean up its atmosphere.

BEIJING, Feb. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A study by Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) found that through 2009, China was on track to meet the 20% energy intensity reduction target in the 11th Five Year Plan, reversing the trend of increasing energy intensity from 2002 to 2005.

A government official said China will become the world’s third-largest producer of electricity from wind by the end of the year as it taps more renewable sources of energy and reduces the use of polluting coal.
