The opening weekend tally for Star Trek in the United States was $79.2 million, $3 million higher than initial estimates, Paramount Pictures said Monday. The figure reflects box-office receipts for the Friday through Sunday period in 3,849 locations. Initially, the movie was expected to bring in $18.3 million Sunday, but it ended up grossing $21 million, the studio said, crediting better than expected family attendance with the upsurge.
Star Trek accounted for 83 percent of advance U.S. theater ticket sales at MovieTickets.com Wednesday, the Web site said. As of noon, MovieTickets.com reported 387 sold-out screenings of the eagerly awaited origins movie, which opens in some U.S.
REDLANDS - The fall foreign film series of the Redlands Cinema Classic series continues with "Before the Rains," Oct. 14 and 16; "The Counterfeiters," Oct. 28 and 30; and "Romulus, My Father," Nov. 11 and 13 at the Krikorian Redlands Cinema 14.
