PITTSBURGH, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A new breed of high-performance ice hockey skates will make its Olympic debut during tonight's Men's Ice Hockey Group B premier between Russia and Latvia.
Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin won both the Hart Trophy and the Pearson Award Thursday at the NHL's annual post-season banquet. Ovechkin became the 14th player to win both the awards in the same year.
The Pittsburgh Penguins, led by team owner Mario Lemieux, celebrated their Stanley Cup championship Monday with a parade and rally with thousands of fans. Pittsburgh won its third championship in franchise history by knocking off the defending champion Red Wings at Detroit in Game 7 Friday.
Evgeni Malkin had two goals and an assist Saturday, sparking Pittsburgh to a 6-2 win over Carolina and a 3-0 lead in their Eastern Conference finals. Sidney Crosby and Ruslan Fedotenko each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who need only one more win to close out the best-of-seven series.
