North Carolina State University researchers are proposing that a wind-driven "tumbleweed" Mars rover would be capable of moving across the Red Planet's rocky terrain.

Members from NASA's Mars Science Laboratory mission preformed a “test drive” of the a Mars rover in Dumont Dunes in California's Mojave Desert last week.

According to new research, Mars may have been arid for over 600 million years, making it inhospitable for life to survive.

NASA's car-sized Curiosity rover has begun monitoring space radiation during its 8-month trip from Earth to Mars. The research will aid in planning for future human missions to the Red Planet.
