By JASON BEATTIE THREE British soldiers were killed by a bomb dropped from a US warplane during fighting in Afghanistan, it was confirmed this afternoon. Two other men from 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment were injured in the friendly fire incident.

Text of report in English by Afghan independent Pajhwok news agency website Kabul/London, 24 August: Three British soldiers with NATO were killed and two others injured in a suspected friendly fire incident in restive southern Afghanistan, the UK Defence Ministry announced on Friday.

By NO BYLINE ALL wars have incidents we now refer to as "friendly fire", where allied forces inadvertently attack each other instead of the enemy. During both the Suez invasion and the Falklands campaign, British forces suffered casualties from their own side.
